ABOUT

Joe Zhao is an emerging photojournalist, and is currently a master's student majoring in Multimedia, Photography and Design at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She graduated from Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the Art Photography program in May 2024.

 

She's been interested in visual arts since high school, and mainly focused on fashion photography. After joined The Daily Orange, an independent nonprofit newspaper published in Syracuse, New York, she found herself more enthusiastic about discovering the moments found in every day’s life and shifted her focus to photojournalism.

 

Joe currently works for The Daily Orange, where she started as a photographer and worked her way up to assistant photo editor and then video editor. There, she collaborated with writers to curate visual content and ensure that it complements and enhances the storytelling of articles. Joe also contributes to TheNewsHouse.com and University Union. After graduation, Joe hopes to become a photojournalist, focusing on social and political issues and global conflicts.
